How Young Women Can Find Purpose, Build Confidence, and Lead with God at the Centre
All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits.
Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered, “Who am I?”
Not because you don’t know your name, but because you’re unsure of your purpose, your direction, or your place in the world.
If you are a young woman trying to figure out your identity while balancing family expectations, career goals, relationships, faith, and social media, you’re not alone.
Many women spend years searching for confidence, only to discover they’ve been looking in all the wrong places.
The truth is this: You can not fully discover yourself until you first discover the One who created you.
One of the greatest struggles I see as an identity and leadership coach is not a lack of talent, It is a lack of identity.
Many capable young women quietly believe: “I must prove my worth before I deserve to be loved, accepted, or successful.” This limiting belief keeps them trapped in comparison, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and fear of failure. They constantly chase validation instead of purpose.
God never intended for your value to come from your performance.
Your identity begins with Him, not your achievements, appearance, income, or followers.
We often judge ourselves by outward success, God looks deeper. He weighs the motives and condition of our hearts.
Four False Pictures of God That Keep Us Stuck
Without realizing it, many of us reshape God into someone who simply supports our personal desires instead of allowing Him to transform us.
1. The Self-Help God
This version of God exists mainly to make us feel better. Whenever we’re lonely, anxious, overlooked, or insecure, we only seek God for encouragement. While God deeply cares about our pain, He does not simply boost our self-esteem.
He reveals Himself.
He reminds us that He is faithful.
He is holy.
He is loving.
He is enough.
Real confidence grows when our focus shifts from ourselves to the greatness of God.
2. The Self-Serving God
This version of God exists to make life comfortable. He grants every desire, removes every obstacle, and makes every dream happen exactly as planned.
When disappointments come, many people become frustrated with God because life did not match their expectations. The true God is not a vending machine for our wishes.
He is our loving Father who is more committed to shaping our character than simply satisfying our comfort. Purpose is often developed through challenges, not convenience.
3. The Self-Exalting God
Sometimes, success quietly becomes our greatest idol. We want to lead, influence, build businesses, and grow ministries. Write books and speak on stages. None of these are wrong.
The problem comes when our desire for influence becomes greater than our desire to glorify Christ. God’s glory is never about making our names famous. His glory shines through humble service, faithful leadership, and transformed lives.
The greatest leaders are those who reflect Jesus, not themselves.
4. The Self-Image God
This may be the easiest trap to fall into.
We create a version of God who agrees with every opinion we hold. He approves whatever we already want. He overlooks the habits we don’t want to change.
He supports everyone we support.
Before long, we are following a god made in our image instead of allowing God to remake us into His. Growth begins where surrender begins.
True Freedom can be learned from Apostle Paul. He understood something many of us are still learning. Even while imprisoned, he overflowed with joy.
How? His confidence was not based on circumstances, popularity, or comfort. His identity rested completely in Christ.
That same freedom is available today because Jesus becomes enough not because life becomes easier.
When Christ becomes your foundation, rejection no longer defines you.
Failure no longer destroys you.
Comparison no longer controls you.
Three Practical Ways to Find Purpose and Build Confidence
1. Seek God Before Seeking Yourself
Instead of asking,
“Who am I?”
Begin asking,
“Lord, who are You?”
The better you know God’s character, the clearer your own identity becomes.
Purpose flows from relationship.
2. Replace Lies with God’s Truth
Every limiting belief must be challenged with Scripture.
When insecurity says,
“I am not enough.”
God says,
“My grace is sufficient for you.”
When fear says,
“I’ll never succeed.”
God reminds us that He equips those He calls, your feelings change and God’s truth remains constant.
3. Grow in Community
Purpose flourishes in healthy environments. Surround yourself with mentors, coaches, and women who challenge you to become more like Christ.
Isolation often feeds insecurity.
Community builds courage.
Never underestimate the power of growing alongside women who are committed to becoming all God created them to be.

Spend time journaling these questions this week:
Which false picture of God have I unknowingly believed?
Where have I been searching for my identity?
Am I living for God’s glory or my own?
What one step can I take today to know God more deeply?
Prayer
Loving Father, teach me to know You as You truly are. Remove every false image I have created in my mind and help me see Your heart through Your Word. Build my confidence in Your truth rather than in my achievements or the opinions of others. Shape my character, reveal my purpose, and help me become the woman You created me to be. May my life bring glory to You and leave a legacy that reflects Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Growth does not happen by accident. It happens through intentional decisions made one day at a time.
